DAIRY & EGGS
‘Blessed are the cheese makers.’
Who are we to argue with Monty Python? The UK is spoiled for choice when it comes to champion artisan cheese makers, and we try to stock as many of their wares as shelf space will allow.
Cow, sheep, goat; pasteurised and raw; blue, white, honey-gold; hard, soft, smooth, crumbly, creamy, bloomy, oozy, melting; tangy, mellow, buttery, nutty, smoky, citrusy, sharp, and stinky; truckles, wedges, rounds and logs. So many cheeses, so little time. Next time you’re passing, check them out and see what takes your fancy.
Other in-store dairy delights include ice-cream, organic cream for pouring, whipping and dolloping; thick and rich crème fraiche; and live, low-fat, full-fat and Greek-style yoghurts – some plain and unadulterated, some full of fruity deliciousness.
Our hen’s eggs are all free-range and organic. Mostly they’re from experienced layers, but we also sell pullet’s eggs (pullets are young hens that are relatively new to the whole laying game – their eggs are prized by pastry chefs throughout the land).
And most weeks, Linda Dick, who breeds some of the biggest and tastiest chickens on the planet, gives us duck eggs too – always a treat if you can get your hands on them before they’re snapped up.
